Smart Money (1933) (DVD) $18.95 Edward G. Robinson and James Cagney were hotter than smoking gats when Smart Money was released. Each actor was mere months removed from his star-making role – Little Caesar and The Public Enemy respectively – when they paired in a snappy tale that one might expect would be the first of many tough-guy collaborations. Alas, perhaps astonishingly, no. This is the only feature teaming the two legends. Robinson leads the way and Cagney rides shotgun in this brisk tale of barbers who go from cutting hair to cutting in on the gambling racket. It’s the right game for classic film fans (and adding to the fun is the first known screen appearance of prolific character actor Charles Lane). Grab a chair and ante up. |

Yet today his message of peace hope love and forgiveness still resonates with people of all races nationalities educational and economic backgrounds. The message and uniqueness of Jesus remain the same but each author tells the story from his perspective and for his purpose. Some writers wrote more; others wrote less. nbsp; But what if we could read it as one single story from beginning to end This book does just that by combining the four reports of Jesusrsquo; life into a single chronological story.nbsp;Through this book you will take a new look at Jesus his life his miracles and his teachings and be able to come to your own conclusion about him.nbsp;Produced in cooperation with the International Bible Society.” |

Love and Money (MOD) $19.95 Byron Levin (Ray Sharkey) has two sides. One is Byron the workaday L.A. banker quick to defend a harassed co-worker. The other is a pent-up employee who’ll say something outrageous to a stranger for shock effect. Increasingly, Byron’s risk-taking nature takes hold. And it becomes a stranglehold when Byron is seduced by the deadly allure of Love and Money in this tantalizing thriller from James Toback (The Pick-up Artist, Bugsy). Byron accepts a million-dollar deal with a global silver magnate (Klaus Kinski). His reason says no but his passions say yes: he’s begun an illicit affair with the tycoon’s exotic wife (Ornella Muti). In return, he must persuade a former college roommate, now a Latin American strongman (Armand Assante), to stop nationalizing the silver mines. And if words fail him, bullets will do. |

1937 Disasters: 1937 Natural Disasters, New London School Explosion, Ohio River Flood of 1937, Elixir Sulfanilamide $14.14 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Not illustrated. Excerpt: The New London School explosion occurred on March 18, 1937, when a natural gas leak caused an explosion, destroying the London School of New London, Texas, a community in Rusk County previously known as “London.” The disaster killed in excess of 295 students and teachers, making it the worst catastrophe to take place in a U.S. school building. In the mid-1930s, the Great Depression was in full swing, but the London school district was one of the richest in America. A 1930 oil find in Rusk County had boosted the local economy, and educational spending grew with it. The London School, a large structure of steel and concrete, was constructed in 1932 at a cost of $1 million (approx $15.75 million in 2009 dollars). The London Wildcats (a play on the term “wildcatter”, for an oil prospector) played football in the first stadium in the state to have electric lights. London School before the explosionThe school was built on sloping ground, and a large dead-air space was contained beneath the structure. The school board had overridden the original architect’s plans for a boiler and steam distribution system, instead opting to install 72 gas heaters throughout the building. Early in 1937, the school board canceled their natural gas contract and had plumbers install a tap into Parade Gasoline Company’s residue gas line in order to save money. This practice, while not explicitly authorized by local oil companies, was widespread in the area. The natural gas extracted with the oil was seen as a waste product and was flared off. As there was no value to the natural gas, the oil companies turned a blind eye. This “raw” or “wet” gas varied in quality from day to day, even from hour to hour. Untreated natural gas is both odorless and colorles… More: |

Accidental Deaths by Electrocution: Claude Fran ois $9.71 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Claude François (1 February 1939 11 March 1978) was a French pop singer and songwriter. He wrote “Comme d’habitude,” the original version of “My Way.” The son of an Italian (Calabrian) mother and a French father, Claude François was born in Egypt, in the city of Ismailia, where his father, Aimé François, was working as a shipping traffic controller on the Suez Canal. In 1951 the job took the family to the city of Port Tawfik on the Gulf of Suez. François’ mother was very musical and had her son take piano and violin lessons. On his own, the boy learned to play the drums. As a result of the 1956 Suez Crisis, the family returned to live in Monaco, where they struggled financially after François’ father fell ill and could not work. A young François found a job as a bank clerk and at night earned extra money playing drums with an orchestra at the luxury hotels along the French Riviera. With a good but untested nasal singing voice, he was offered a chance to sing at a hotel in the fashionable Mediterranean resort town of Juan-les-Pins. His show was well received and eventually he began to perform at the glamorous night-clubs along the Côte d’Azur. While working the clubs, he met Janet Woolcoot, an English dancer whom he married in 1960. Ambitious, François moved to Paris, where there were many more opportunities to pursue his career. At the time, American Rock and Roll was taking hold in France and he took a job as part of a singing group in order to make a living. With the goal of eventually making it as a solo act, he paid the cost to record a 45rpm. Trying to capitalize on the American dance craze “The Twist”, François recorded a song titled “Nabout Twist” that proved a resounding failure. Undaunted, in 1962 |

History The title is facetious, given that Pink Floyd is not known for making particularly danceable music. This is perhaps evidenced by the album art, which featured a photograph of ballroom dancers guyed to the ground so they cannot move. The Hipgnosis design team did the cover under the pseudonym TCP after falling out with Roger Waters a few years earlier. The inner sleeve had pictures of dancers in either a white (UK) or black (U.S.) background. The picture labels were a black background with blue lines and red sketch lined dancers on side one and reverse on side two. The album contains alternate mixes of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” (which comprises parts 1 3, 5 and 7) and “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)” (which combines the intro from the single mix with the album version which fades out during the “if you don’t eat your meat” ending). Also, the track “Money” |

Big Profit Article Marketing $1.99 Dear Fellow Internet Marketer,It’s no secret that the key to making money on the Internet is traffic. The more traffic you can drive, the more money you will make. It’s a simple equation. When it comes to finding that traffic though, there are many different ways to find the people you need. If you’ve been selling online for any matter of time, this doesn’t come as a surprise. You probably know that some methods can be very effective, but those methods normally can be more expensive than they are worth. If you are looking for huge sources of free traffic, most people will tell you that they are as mythical as dragons, leprechauns and the loch ness monster. But there are ways to drive tons of traffic for free. Not only that, but there are ways to drive tons of product hungry traffic who’re ready to buy immediately that won’t cost you anything more than a little bit of time and effort. The most effective ways of these free ways to drive traffic is to write and publish articles to different article hubs.Sounds odd, right? Most people would never guess that the arcane act of writing an article could produce such a profitable response in these high tech times. But it works. I can tell you first hand how well it works…I started out as an Internet marketer working by building affiliate websites. I did the normal ClickBank thing…I’d find a product that I thought would convert well, built a website around it and starting driving as much traffic as I could.Try to guess what happened…Yeah, nothing. Not one single person came to buy from me. I was disappointed but I wasn’t ready to give up, not by a long shot.I thought maybe it was the particular product I chose. So I took not just one more product, but five. I figured the more products I sold, the better source of statistics I’d find. I won’t ask you |

Excerpt: Muhammad, Messenger of Allah (in Arabic: , Ar Risalah; U.S. title: The Message) is a 1976 film directed by Moustapha Akkad, chronicling the life and times of the prophet of Islam, Muhammad. Released in both Arabic and English, Mohammad, Messenger of God serves as an introduction to early Islamic history. The film follows Muhammad’s first years as a prophet starting with Islam’s beginnings in Mecca in which the Muslims are persecuted, the exodus to Medina, and ending with the Muslims’ triumphant return to Mecca. A number of crucial events, such as the Battle of Badr and Battle of Uhud are depicted, and the majority of the story is told from the point-of-view of peripheral individuals such as Hamza ibn Abd al-Muttalib (Muhammad’s uncle), Abu Sufyan (the leader of Mecca) and his wife Hind bint Utbah (enemies of Islam who later become Muslims themselves). Director Akkad faced resistance from Hollywood to making a film about the origins of Islam and had to go outside the United States to raise the production money for the film. Lack of financing nearly shut down the film as the initial backers pulled out, financing was finally provided by Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi. The film was shot in Libya and Morocco, with production taking four and a half months to build the cities of Mecca and Medina as they looked in Muhammad’s time. Director Akkad saw the film as a way to bridge the gap between the Western and Islamic world, stating in a 1976 interview: I did the film because it is a personal thing for me. Besides its production values as a film, it has its story, its intrigue, i… More: |

Cypriot Roman Catholics: Cypriot Roman Catholic Saints, Barnabas, Epiphanius of Salamis, Saint Spyridon, John the Merciful, Seven Deacons $12.7 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: Cypriot Roman Catholic Saints, Barnabas, Epiphanius of Salamis, Saint Spyridon, John the Merciful, Seven Deacons, James Ii of Cyprus, Aristobulus of Britannia. Excerpt: Saint Barnabas (Ancient Greek: ) of the first century, born Joseph, was an Early Christian convert, one of the earliest Christian disciples in Jerusalem. Like almost all Christians at the time (see also Jewish Christians), Barnabas was one of the Children of Israel, specifically a Levite. Named an apostle in Acts 14:14, he and Saint Paul undertook missionary journeys together and defended Gentile converts against the demands of stricter church leaders (see also Judaizers). They gained many converts in Antioch (c 43-44), traveled together making more converts (c 45-47), and participated in the Council of Jerusalem (c 50). Barnabas and Paul successfully evangelized among the “God-fearing” gentiles who attended synagogues in various Hellenized cities of Anatolia.. Barnabas’ story appears in the Acts of the Apostles, and Paul mentions him in some of his epistles. Tertullian named him as the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews, but this and other attributions are conjecture. Clement of Alexandria ascribed an early Christian epistle to Barnabas (Epistle of Barnabas), but that is highly improbable. Martyred at Salamis, Cyprus, in AD 61 , he is traditionally identified as the founder of the Cypriot Church. The feast day of St Barnabas is celebrated on June 11. Some traditions hold that Aristobulus of Britannia, one of the Seventy Disciples, was the brother of Barnabas. His Hellenic Jewish parents called him Joseph (although the Byzantine text-type calls him , Iss, ‘Joses’, a Greek variant of ‘Joseph’), but when he sold all his goods and gave the money to the apostles in Jerusalem, the… More: |

His co-founder and investor was Huenges, managing director of a brewery. Van Doorne had repaired Huenges’ car several times. Huenges was so pleased with his work that he offered to lend him money if he wanted to start his own shop. Hub started to work in a small workshop on the grounds of the brewery. In 1932 the company, now run by Hub and his brother, Wim van Doorne, changed its name to Van Doorne’s Aanhangwagen Fabriek (Van Doorne’s Trailer Factory), abbreviated to DAF. Huenges left the company in 1936 and the DAF company was now completely in the hands of the van Doorne brothers. After the Second World War, luxury cars and trucks were very scarce. This meant a big opportunity for DAF. In 1949 the company started making trucks, trailers and buses, changing its name to Van Doorne’s Automobiel Fabriek (Van Doorne’s Automobile Factory). The first truck model was the DAF A30. In the winter of 1954 Hub van Doorne had the idea to use belt drive, just like many of the machines in the factory that were belt-driven, to drive road vehicles. In 1955 DAF produced its first drafts of a car belt drive system. Over the next few years the design was developed and refined. In February 1958 DAF demonstrated a small belt-driven four-seater car at the Dutch car show (the AutoRAI). The public r… More: |

Environmental Education in the United States: Acid Rain Retirement Fund, the Fairchild Challenge, No Child Left Inside, David Boynton $10.37 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: The Acid Rain Retirement Fund (A.R.R.F) is an all-volunteer, non-profit environmental educational organization dedicated to reducing pollution by purchasing and retiring marketable sulfur dioxide emissions allowances issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys Acid Rain Program. A.R.R.F. was created in 1995 and purchased its first allowances in that year. A.R.R.F. provides citizens with information about access to pollution markets, along with the ability to directly prevent pollution. A.R.R.F is one of only four organizations listed on the home page of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys Clean Air Markets as purchasing allowances to take them off the market. None of the major national environmental groups are listed there. A.R.R.F. is incorporated in the State of Maine and recognized as a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, making donations to it deductible on income taxes as charitable contributions. Pursuant to the Clean Air Act of 1990, each year in March the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency auctions off to the highest bidder about 250,000 pollution allowances that enable companies to emit one ton of sulfur dioxide. Those companies face statutory penalties of $2,000/ton for every ton of sulfur dioxide they emit in excess of those for which they own allowances. Emissions allowances are bought and sold daily through the Chicago Board of Trade like soybeans, rice or any other commodity. Only a limited number of allowances are available each year. After those allowances are used, no more can be issued. The Acid Rain Retirement Fund raises money and bids alongside polluters in the annual auctions for as many allowances as their funds can buy. But instead of using or tra… More: |

Excerpt: Death and the Compass Death and the Compass is British director Alex Cox ‘s second Mexican feature (the first was El Patrullero ), made in 1996. Based on the short story Death and the Compass ( La Muerte y La Brújula ) by Jorge Luis Borges , the film is in English, and stars Peter Boyle as Erik Lönnrot the detective, Miguel Sandoval as Treviranus, his boss, and Christopher Eccleston as Red Scharlach/Zunz. Mexican actress Zaide Silvia Gutiérrez appears as Ms Espinosa/Harlequin. The crew is the same as that of El Patrullero ; the designer is Cecilia Montiel , the cameraman Miguel Garzon, the editor Carlos Puente. Stylistically it is quite different. The colours are impossibly bright, the locations monumental and exaggerated (particularly the police station a maze of corridors built in Mexico City ‘s main post office and the Convento de San Ildefonso, where Lonnrot meets his end). Death and the Compass was originally a 55-minute drama made for Spanish TV/BBC in 1992, the quintocentenary year of the Spanish conquest of what is today Latin America. The producer, Karl Braun, found further money from Japan to expand the film into a feature, but the film was not completed until four years after it was shot. The synthetic 80′s “period” soundtrack was composed by Dan Wool and Pray for Rain ]. The making of the soundtrack is discussed thoroughly in a conversation between Cox and Wool on the DVD release. Excerpt: Abhijan (The Expedition) Abhijan () is a 1962 Bengali film directed by the Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray . Introduction The filming of Abhijan began by the first half of 1961 when Bijoy Chatterjee asked Satyajit Ray to write a script on a popular Bengali novel of the same name by Tarashankar Bandopadhyay . Ray took up the job happily as he wrote scripts (or directed music) for various Bengali film for money. At the time his one of the most intriguing film Kanchenjungha was being shot at Darjiling . After the heartbreaking box office failure (both in home and away ) Ray found himself “anxious to reach out to a wider audience.” Even at this point it was for Bijoy Chatterjee the script was being written, Ray had no idea of making the film himself, much like the other notable film not wholeheartedly made by Ray, Chiriyakhana . Ray got involved into the film when they went to the famous hill-spot Dubrajpur in Birbhum not much away from bolpur shantiniketan. It was then that the looming (almost as a recurring motif ) Mama Bhagne pahar was assimilated into the films backbone. As a result we see that the motif of human being with their baggage of sin and adultery will be symbolised into the stone pillar. When Ray further went into shooting the |

Excerpt: Alton Glenn Miller (born March 1, 1904 went missing December 15, 1944), was an American jazz musician, arranger, composer, and bandleader in the swing era. He was one of the best-selling recording artists from 1939 to 1943, leading one of the best known “Big bands”. Miller’s signature recordings include In the Mood, American Patrol, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Tuxedo Junction, Moonlight Serenade, Little Brown Jug and Pennsylvania 6-5000. While traveling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War II, Miller’s plane disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel. His body has never been found. Miller was born on a farm in Clarinda, Iowa, to Mattie Lou (née Cavender) and Lewis Elmer Miller. He went to grade school in North Platte in western Nebraska. In 1915, Miller’s family moved to Grant City, Missouri. Around this time, Miller had finally made enough money from milking cows to buy his first trombone and played in the town orchestra. In 1918, the Miller family moved again, this time to Fort Morgan, Colorado, where Miller went to high school. During his senior year, Miller became very interested in a new style of music called “dance band music.” He was so taken with it that he formed his own band with some classmates. By the time Miller graduated from high school in 1921, he had decided he wanted to become a professional musician. In 1923, Miller entered the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he joined Sigma Nu Fraternity, but spent most of his time away from school, attending auditions and playing any gigs he could get, most notably with Boyd Senter’s band in Denver. He dropped out of school after failing three out of five classes one semester, and decided to concentrate on making a career as a professional musician. He later stu… More: |

Excerpt: Online gambling is a general term for gambling using the Internet. Online poker tables commonly offer Texas hold ‘em, Omaha, Seven-card stud, razz, HORSE and other game types in both tournament and ring game structures. Players play against each other rather than the “house”, with the card room making its money through “rake” and through tournament fees. There are a large number of online casinos, in which people can play casino games such as roulette, blackjack, pachinko, baccarat and many others. These games are played against the “house”, which makes money due to the fact that the odds are in its favor. Bookmakers, spread betting firms and betting exchanges offer a variety of ways to wager over the Internet on the results of sporting events, the most popular being fixed-odds gambling. There are a number of online bingo rooms offering games on the Internet. Most lotteries are run by governments and are heavily protected from competition due to their ability to generate large taxable cash-flows. The first online lotteries were run by private individuals or companies and licensed to operate by smaller countries. Most private online lotteries have stopped trading as governments have passed new laws giving themselves and their own lotteries greater protection. Government controlled lotteries now offer their games online. Developments in the use of wireless, mobile devices to gamble follow in the wake of mainstream online gambling. Normally, gamblers upload funds to the online gambling company, make bets or play the games that it offers, and then cash out any winnings. Gamblers can often fund gambling accounts by credit card or debit card, and cash out winnings directly back to the card; most U.S. banks, however, prohibit the use of their cards… More: |

Greek Gamblers: Greek Poker Players, Archie Karas, Nick Dandolos, Peter Vilandos, Billy Argyros, Chris Tsiprailidis $8.16 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Archie Karas (born Anargyros Karabourniotis in 1950) is a Greek-American gambler, poker player, and pool shark famous for the largest and longest documented winning streak in gambling history simply known as The Run when he turned $50 in December 1992 into over $40 million by the beginning of 1995, only to lose it all later that year. He is considered by many to have been the greatest gambler of all time and has often been compared to Nick the Greek, another high stakes gambler. Karas himself claims to have gambled with more money than anyone else in history. Karas was born in 1950 at Antypata on the island of Cefalonia, Greece. He grew up in poverty and had to shoot marbles as a teenager to avoid going hungry. His father, Nickolas, was a construction worker who struggled financially. Karas ran away from home at the age of 15 after, in a rage, his father threw a shovel at him, barely missing his head. He never saw his father again. Nickolas died four years later. Karas worked as a waiter on a ship, making $60 a month until the ship arrived at Portland, Oregon. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he would gamble his bankroll up to $2,000,000 before losing it playing high stakes poker. After arriving in America, he worked at a restaurant in Los Angeles which was next to a bowling alley and a pool hall. There he honed his pool skills and eventually made more money playing pool than he did as a waiter. When his victims from the pool hall thinned out, he went to Los Angeles card rooms to play poker. He quickly became an astute poker player, building his bankroll to over $2,000,000. In December 1992, he had lost all but $50 playing high stakes poker. Instead of reevaluating his situation and slowing down, he decided to go to Las Vegas in search o… More: |

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Launch Pad was an alternative to the Macintosh desktop developed by Berkeley Systems in late 1994. It provided a simple environment for users to help them to work without supervision. Launch Pad sits on top of the Finder desktop, providing a simple area oriented graphical user interface in which applications and documents are represented by icons and large buttons. Aside from its security features, its interface and basic functionality was very similar to KidDesk. Berkeley Systems was a San Francisco Bay Area software company cofounded in 1987 by Wes Boyd and Joan Blades. It made money early on by doing contract work for the National Institutes of Health, specifically in making modifications to the Macintosh so that it could be used by partially sighted or blind people. Several of these Access programs were licensed by Apple Computer and added to the operating system. Perhaps the most ambitious of these technologies was a program that could read the Macintosh screen, called Outspoken, which won a technology award from the Smithsonian in 1990. |

Lesotho Culture: Mbaqanga, Morija Arts $8.31 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Mbaqanga is a style of South African music with rural Zulu roots that continues to influence musicians worldwide today. The style originated in the early 1960s. Historically, laws such as the Land Act of 1913 to the Group Area Act(1950) initially prevented people from integrating from different tribal communities, consequently making it almost impossible for most music artists to gain recognition beyond their tribal boundaries. The music genre mbaganga developed during this time (1960s) and to this day most of the major record labels are white owned companies with very few black artist that have contributed to their own material. In Zulu, the term mbaqanga means an everyday cornmeal porridge, which is worth noting, considering the history of the music’s popularity. Mbaqanga aficionados were mostly plebeian, metropolitan African jazz enthusiasts. Many of them were not permitted to establish themselves in the city, but they were unable to sustain themselves in the rural country. Mbaqanga gave them a staple form of musical and spiritual sustenance; it was their “musical daily bread.” Mbaqanga musicians received little money. For example, Simon Mahlathini Nkabinde, one of the most well-known mbaqanga singers (and arguably the most famous mbaqanga “groaner”, nicknamed the “lion of Soweto”), died a poor man. This was partly due to the exploitation of black South African musicians at home and abroad as Mahlathini pointed out. Mbaqanga groups of the 1960s also found it difficult to get air time on local radio stations, and had to perform outside record stores to attract audiences. Mbaqanga developed in the South African shebeens during the 1960s. Its use of western instruments allowed mbaqanga to develop into a South African version of jazz. Musicall… More: |

It was released in 2002 from the album Toxicity, which earned the band its second Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2003. Back outside, the boy is walking down the Hollywood Walk of Fame with two women in red dresses. Exiting the building, paparazzi swarm the boy and begin photographing the boy. People begin interviewing him, but he is never seen to respond. It then cuts back to the band for a short period of time, where after it displays the boy in a photo shoot, being examined with different clothes. Pritchard entered the 4th Michigan Cavalry, Company L, as a captain. Following the Battle of Chickamauga (September 30 October 3, 1863), he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel. On September 1, 1864, while on a short leave, Pritchard traveled to Chagrin Falls, Ohio, where he was married to Mary Bently Kent.
